Happy Birthday Emeline!

Happy Birthday sweet Emeline. I hope you enjoy every last bit of it. Do not bite off your playmobil heads like mommy used to do. Plastic hair is natural on playmobils, you know.

Ah and don't play with them on the toilets because they're bound to fall in the potty. And Daddy ain't gonna go fish 'em let alone Uncle D.

Alright then, tiddly-loo and happy b-day!

Nineteen months and a couple of curls later

Here we are, Anne-Lise (Mommy), me (Emeline, one superactive toddler), and my uncle (who's snapping us) strolling on the remparts of the Nantes Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne. It looks like we're smack in the middle of yet another dreary November. But that's all appearances. We're actually going through a very damp - to say the least - month of May. At least I can rehearse my vocab: maman et daddy. Yes that's the way I call them. I can walk too of course. I even chase smaller babies. And don't you go about messing with my cookie. It's mine and mine only. No sharing. Kisses you can get, but hunt for your own grub.
Oh, and I love phones. I simply do. I call them lallos cuz after all it seems you grown ups spend your time saying that into the phone (humans speaking to a handheld piece of black plastic that makes noises and vibrates - whirs - sounds down right weird to me).
Daddy broke his foot. Maybe now I stand a chance against him when he comes chasing me round the apartment when bathtime looms in.
It's late - time to doze off. See you next time.

A baby in Paris

Hi there wee toddlers of the world, tis me again, Emeline.

I've just heard the greatest piece of news in a very long time: I nearly jumped two feet high straight out of my comfy diapers (that however was to count without the strong bond strapped around me) as I heard the whopping news.

Not so long ago, it was all about me, me, and myself. Ah oh and my toys of course. But now, I've got a new one to play with: it cries, moves about (a little), smells (wheee), and giggles when tickled. Yes it's a brand new, straight-out-of-the-box baby. A friend to play with and above all a new cousin. The first one to be quite precise. Comes fully equipped with instructions so they say.

At last some company I can chit chat with. It's not that adults don't listen - they just don't understand when you talk. I've only mastered just about as many syllabes as I've got hands you know so each one of those sounds is quite expressive. A lot more than the average twenty-year old's syllable. Yo!

The newcomer is Pierre, a healthy little boy (photos please?), born in Paris to Claire and Olivier on Friday the 19th of January, a full week ahead of schedule (another one who won't work for the train companies, let alone the airlines). So by the way, Uncle, it's not really niece OR nephew anymore. You've got one of each now. 100% extra cuddles, drooling, crawling and all the fun in between.

All I can say to the happy parents now is pretty much dada meaning All the best and thanks for giving me company. So when do I get to play with the little guy huh? Another one who's gonna be a victim of feminin domination!

Till then cheerio, it's time for a bit of nippy nappy.

A Baby Emeline Report on Bits and Pieces from the Holy Season

Hi everyone, it's me again, Emeline, you my uncle's niece! Well it's been a bustling busy year over the past twelve-odd months. I turned one just a few months ago. Boy oh boy are birthdays exciting. But... I've a nagging feeling I'm getting cheated out of a few dates. What I mean is that when I was just a wee baby (wee-er than now) my parents would celebrate every last month (not to mention week). And now all I get is one birthday? Oh what a joke!

Anyway, Christmas came round again. I didn't get to see Santa this time. I guess freezing fog had the best of Rudolf and the other reindeers. I still got some very cool stuff like a wooden house from my older uncle - it's got holes in the roof. Then again never trust the construction of a house to a newly doctored litterature professor. He's bound to end up like Buster Keaton in his rotating house.

I guess one of the best bits was when I was crowned Queen of all of... well er queen of, queen of. Hmmm can't remember. But the cake was good and the crown was just fun to throw to the floor. That is, so long as Grand Pop picked it up. Aaah adults, you'd make them do anything, right? He even lent me this very nice little round ring to play with: lordette of the ring. Fancy huh? Well then just as I was about to taste the deliciously looking ring, he snatched it away from my little hands and I felt quite upset.

Then came the time for the grandparents and Uncle D. to leave. Although I was sad to see them go, I was still thinking of that ring and merely gave each of them a pout (a pout a day bring a lot of presents, it may)

Bis

It's been a long while since I last updated this blog on Emeline's trepidant life. Well over six months.

In that long lapse of time - from baby E.'s perspective - our favorite four-legged crawlie has grown, changed, learn to talk more make more noise babble fluenty in at least two different languages and I've been trying to keep her up-to-date with her Portuguese.

But perhaps the most riveting and tantalizing news came from Paris (as it would be in centralized France) where Ollie, the 30+ year-old senior sibling, issued the following statement: "Claire's pregnant... Three months pregnant". Emeline, behold, a new toy's on the way!

So it so happens that little Emeline will be blessed with a cousin. And the spy race is on again: it's still unclear whether it'll be a boy or a girl. The expecting father forgot to mention. But no worries, the clever ol' cunning kid bro' is once again on the lookout for the truth.

Figure that out!

Live from Nantes, our reporter reports that on Friday the 13th of January 2006, little Emeline weighed an astounding 6.330 kg (her mom notes the weights are always astounding) for a soaring 63.5cm. She's only 319.365 m shy of the Eiffel tower.

We hope Emeline's early growth spurt will continue as prime conditions have been reached in rainy Nantes whilst Ipswichers have been basking in a (shy) sun.

Emeline's first Christmas

Over the last couple of weeks, Emeline slept through nearly half of the Christmas fun but with her ever so moving ever so pretty eyes she looked around trying to understand what all the fuss was about.

After it was the first time she was at her grandparents' home with all of the family gathered around. Big-eared Uncle and his lovely wife had driven from hectic Paris whilst the other one had flown in from overseas.

Elated as she was, Emeline manifested her joy with a couple of hiccups, many smiles as wide as beautiful, and several gobbledygooky words, or rather sounds. Gaaaaaa.

We believed shed had quite nearly killed Santa until we realized she'd uncovered a phony (see pic).

And now, for something completely pixelized:

Up, up, and away!

A couple figures for the maths-addict, number-craving monster:

Emeline now weighs 5.660 kg for an astounding 60cm from head to toes and a 41cm head perimeter.

Emeline is also firing up on antiviral ammo: she's had her first vaccine on Dec. 1st and that was BCG.

She looks all set and beaming for Christmas. Ho ho ho....

A new batch of pics... coming through to you!

Dad finally got round to publishing those pics you - my fan club - have all been craving for. The last couple of weeks have seen me cuddling in Big-eared Uncle's arms, going to outer space, and starting what girls do best: shopping.

Enough with the dribble. Grab the snaps here:

Nose to the grindstone

Emeline, you might be wallowing around in your nappies right now and happily babbling time away... But i fear a not so clear future awaits you... That is if you consider your name to be an omen.

Here's what an elated-looking baby told me on a randomly found website regarding the meaning of your pretty name:
Emeline
Hardworking. Variant of Emily, from an Old German variant of Emmeline.
Origin: French
I wonder what Mummy and Daddy had in mind when they called you that...
