That Friday night…
It all happened so quickly, called my sister from Portugal - where I’m currently living - to have a bit of “chinwag” as we often do and presto she spilled the beans.
I’m pregnant she said. Oh boy, I couldn’t stand still anymore, I was sort of jumping up and down. I was going to be an uncle at last (that’s the egocentric point of view) and then I realized my parents were going to be grandparents. Heck, it made me feel awfully old.
I guess I felt specially excited because my sister and I were always very close and because I’d been nagging her about having a kid for ages - although she’s still a couple months shy of her 25th birthday. We both knew we couldn’t rely on my bro’, he’s too absorbed in American Poetry to even consider having a baby… And well, I’m not even done studying nor am I girlfriended so that left out one option : my sister would have to do it herself.
The news came early in April, a couple weeks - or was it days - before she was to drop in on me in Portugal along with Stéphane, her boyfriend. It used to be a joke, a rhetorical question, you know.
She’d go Guess what’s new ? I’d reply You pregnant ? And of course the no usually followed. But not this time, not this lucky one time…
Little nephew/niece I guess this blog is for you, so you know what we were up to when you were wallowing around in the warmth and comfort of your mom’s womb. And since my sister said she wouldn’t tell me whether you’re gonna be a Playmobil addict or a Barbie freak, I won’t be able to prepile up toys. Just so you know who to complain to…
You haven’t even got one foot into this world, let alone a hair on your head, that you’ve just litteraly popped up in the eworld. Enjoy !
